Big News from Nordic Game Week!

We are happy to announce that the Finland-based learning game studio Lightneer will sponsor Nordic Game Week 2017!

The company’s first game – Big Bang Legends – is a mobile game that integrates both casual and fun gameplay with educational content about particle physics. Lightneer was very excited about the Nordic Game Week and they are donating Big Band Legends themed merchandise to organizations participating in the Nordic Game Week Competition. The first 200 organizations to register for the competition will receive small prizes (stickers, reflectors etc.) to share with their patrons and TEN competition participants can win a huge bag of fun, including card games, board games, t-shirts, hoodies and more!

Big Bang Legends’s learning content includes basic hierarchies of particle physics, culminating in an understanding of the Periodic Table of Elements. The content has been developed together with experts from CERN.

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

We are very excited to have Lightneer as a patron!

Details on the Nordic Game Week Competition will be announced in the following weeks!

Registration for Nordic Game Week is open

Registration is open to all interested organizations who wish to promote a positive gaming culture and game literacy. Nordic Game Week will collect and display all registered events on a Nordic Game Week Map.

This year the Nordic Game Week map will only display the venue and a link for your own site, where you can more easily keep the information updated. Please create a web page or a Facebook event for your local Nordic Game Week event before registering.

Registered events should be open to the public. You can also participate in a Nordic Game Week Competition. Details for the competition will be announced at a later date. You can take a look at last years competition here.

Nordic Game Day is now Nordic Game Week

Following the example set by the International Games Week, Nordic Game Day will also become a full-fledged theme week! Nordic Game Week will be celebrated this year from 30.10. to 5.11.2017!

You can still organize a singular Nordic Game Day during the Nordic Game Week, or expand the day to a full week. Registration to Nordic Game Week and International Games Week opens in July.

Tomorrow is Nordic Game Day and Great Job!

What an amazing turnout this year! We have a 16% increase in participation overall, and a 1000% increase in Icelandic libraries from last year! Libraries are still the biggest faction with 173  libraries participating this year (up by 23 libraries from last year). Other organizations make up the rest with 58 organizations. By tomorrow 231 different organizations have hosted a total of 436 separate Game Days open to the public!

Keep in mind a lot more organizations host closed events, such as schools and day care centers. All in all, what a great year and we hope to see you all next year and to bring in a new friend 😉

Last minute instructions for Nordic Game Day!

First some numbers!

At the moment we have 235 different organizations of which 175 are libraries and the rest are youth centres, schools, museums, universities, clubs and NGOs, businesses and game stores, game development hubs, game companies and a few bars. This is our biggest Nordic Game Day so far, so congratulations to you all for organizing over 450 game days this week! Tournament

A grand total of 120 organizations will be taking part in the Nordic Game Day Tournament. Here are some more detailed instructions on organizing the tournament.

The objective of the game is to eat multi-colored pebbles and other worms. If a worm hits another worm (or the edges of the playing field) with it’s face, it breaks down into edible pebbles. The game is best played with a mouse. Clicking on the mouse will rush the worm, but consume it’s length.

Name your worm as your organization, for example “Taastrup Bibliotek” so when we play the game, we have a chance of competing against each other.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Print a poster for the competition (download here)
  2. Write or print BEST RESULT on a piece on paper and add to it a post-it note or a card with the score 1000 on it.
  3. Open the game on a browser ( (or install the app on a tablet)
  4. Go Full Screen (by pressing F11)
  5. Name your worm
  6. Let your visitors play the game
  7. When a player beats the default score of 1000, write down the score on one side and a phonenumer or an email on the other side.
  8. Replace the note with the new score.
  9. When someone beats the new score, repeat and throw away the old score.
  10. Send the BEST result and contact information to the winner to your local coordinator by MONDAY 21.11.16 at the latest. Scores submitted after monday will not be accepted into the competition.

The best player in the Nordic Countries will receive a One Plus 3 smartphone and the best player in each country will receive one game (up to 100 euros in value).

You can let the players try to beat the best score multiple times if there is no que. Note that the game will displaye ads from time to time. You can skip the ads with a browers add on or by clicking Skip Ad.

Help us promote Nordic Game Day!

We hope you will be active in contacting your local papers and radio. Ask for journalists, bloggers and vloggers to come and take part in your event. Talk about games and game culture and promote your events on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using any of the following hashtags:

#nordicgameday #leikjadagur #peliviikko #speldag #spildag #spilldag

We will send you a survey after Nordic Game Day to ask for the number of visitors and to collate all mentions in the media, so please count your visiotors and if you see an online article save the link. If you have ANY questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

The Nordic Game Day coordination team is here to help you!

Biggest Nordic Game Day yet!

We already have 166 libraries and 50 other organizations organizing events on 407 days during the Nordic Game Day this year. You still have time register your event and take part in the Nordic Game Day Competition. All the small prizes have been sent to participating organizations, but you can still compete for the gift cards and smartphone or approach local businesses.

We will send you an email tomorrow giving last minute instructions for the competition and information on how you can help NGD be seen in the media. You can start by advertising your events on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using any of the following hashtags:

#nordicgameday #leikjadagur #peliviikko #speldag #spildag #spilldag

Thank you for all your hard work and have a great time!
